Izu Peninsula
Private Day Tour
Dramatic coastline, wild onsen, fresh seafood, and Mt. Fuji across the bay — the Izu Peninsula is Tokyo's best-kept day trip secret.
Tokyo's best-kept
coastal escape
Two hours south of Tokyo lies the Izu Peninsula — a dramatically different Japan. Pacific coastline, hot spring towns, fishing villages, and enough natural variety to fill a full day without feeling rushed.
Route options include the Jogasaki Coast lava cliffs and suspension bridge, Kawazu (Japan's cherry blossom capital, February–March), historic Shimoda harbour where Commodore Perry negotiated Japan's opening in 1853, Izu Shaboten Zoo, and working wasabi farms. On clear days, Suruga Bay provides unobstructed Mt. Fuji sea views that visitors rarely see in tourist photographs.
Full Day only — the drive through the Izu mountains is itself part of the experience. Half-day tours are not practical given the driving distance. We pick you up early and return well before midnight.
Izu through the seasons
February through March, the Kawazu River valley erupts in Japan's earliest and most distinctive cherry blossoms — a deep pink variety unique to this region. Yellow rape flowers frame the pink trees along the riverbanks.
The combination of deep pink cherry blossoms and bright yellow nanohana (rape flowers) at Kawazu is Izu's signature spring image. Peak colour typically runs from mid-February through early March.
The dramatic lava cliff coastline at Jogasaki comes alive with coastal wildflowers in spring. The suspension bridge walk over the sea with blooming hillsides is one of Izu's most memorable spring experiences.
Shimoda's Black Ship Festival in May commemorates Commodore Perry's 1853 arrival. The historic port town is at its most festive, with the old merchant district lanes at their most colourful.

The dramatic volcanic coastline is at its most vivid in summer — green cliffs plunging into deep blue sea, the suspension bridge swaying gently over the Pacific. An unforgettable walk.
Shimoda has some of Izu's cleanest beaches. Shirahama Beach's white sand and clear water are a world apart from Tokyo. Summer brings beach atmosphere to this otherwise quiet historic port town.
Shimoda's working fishing port is at its most active in summer. Fresh tuna, sea bream, and local catch arrive daily — lunch at a portside restaurant in August is Izu at its best.
Several operators along the Jogasaki Coast and Shimoda Bay offer sea kayaking through the volcanic sea caves — a spectacular way to see the lava formations from water level.

Autumn brings brilliant orange persimmons and mikan (mandarin orange) to coastal villages. Many farms open for picking in October — a uniquely Japanese autumn harvest experience.
September through November the summer crowds clear completely. The coastal roads are almost empty, the air crisp, and every stop feels private. Izu at its most unhurried.
October and November offer the clearest air of the year on the Izu Peninsula. Suruga Bay views of Mt. Fuji across the water are most reliable in autumn — the mountain appears to float above the sea.
Roadside mikan (mandarin) farms along the west coast of Izu open for pick-your-own visits in October. Coastal Nishiizu farms have the sweetest fruit and best sea views.

Izu's mountain wasabi farms are open year-round, but winter is the best season — cold, clear mountain water flowing through the growing channels, the farms quiet and uncrowded.
Ito and Atami are Japan's most historic hot spring towns. Day-use onsen bath facilities available at several ryokan — perfect for warming up on a winter coastal drive.
Winter air over Suruga Bay is Japan's clearest. The snow-capped summit of Mt. Fuji floating above a flat blue sea — as seen from the western Izu coast — is one of Japan's most iconic winter views.
Winter is the quietest season on Izu. Roads that are gridlocked in cherry blossom season are virtually empty. The coastal villages feel authentic and local — no tour buses, no crowds.

Two vehicles.
One formation.
When the group exceeds what a single vehicle can hold, we don't hand you off to a bus company. We send two — or three — of our own vehicles together, coordinated as a fleet. One lead driver, one group chat, one point of contact. Every vehicle in the convoy is ours. Every driver is ours. That is what makes it different from a chartered bus.
Enquire About Convoy BookingTwo private Alphards in convoy. Ideal for families, small corporate groups, or couples travelling together.
VIP passengers in the Alphard, the rest in the HiAce. Keeps groups together without putting everyone in a bus.
Full group capacity across two HiAces. No one gets separated. Both vehicles depart and arrive together.
Full fleet deployment for large groups. Corporate events, large tour groups, multi-stop itineraries. Custom combinations on request.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a private Izu Peninsula tour cost?
A private Izu Peninsula day tour costs from ¥75,000 per vehicle (Toyota Alphard, 1–4 passengers, half day) or ¥90,000 for a full day. A HiAce for up to 9 passengers is ¥90,000–¥105,000. The price is per vehicle, not per person.
Is the price per person or per vehicle?
All Hire Taxi Japan prices are per vehicle, not per person. A Toyota Alphard seats 1–4 passengers and a Toyota HiAce seats up to 9, so the per-person cost drops sharply for families and groups. Larger parties can book two or three vehicles in convoy — up to 27 passengers.
What are the highlights of an Izu Peninsula day tour?
The Jogasaki coast cliff walk and suspension bridge, Kawazu's seven waterfalls, Mt. Omuro's perfectly conical crater, and the hot-spring town of Atami or Shuzenji — dramatic Pacific coastline scenery the whole way.
When do the Kawazu cherry blossoms bloom in Izu?
Kawazu-zakura are Japan's earliest famous cherry blossoms, typically blooming from early February to early March — weeks before Tokyo. A private car lets you arrive before the tour buses and combine the blossoms with the coast in one day.
Does the Izu Peninsula tour include hotel pickup?
Yes. Your English-speaking driver meets you in the lobby of your hotel in Tokyo (or any address you choose) and returns you door-to-door at the end of the day. Luggage, strollers, and shopping bags travel in the car with you.
Do the drivers speak English?
Yes. All Hire Taxi Japan chauffeurs communicate in English and are licensed professional drivers. They handle navigation, parking, and timing — and share local recommendations — but are drivers rather than licensed tour guides.
How long is the Izu Peninsula tour?
Plan for 10–12 hours. Because the tour is private, the schedule is flexible — you can extend time at any stop, skip others, or ask your driver to reorder the day around weather and crowds.
How do I book or ask a question?
Book online via the Japan Tour Package page on hiretaxijapan.com, or message us on WhatsApp at +81 70 1265 4460 for a custom plan. We confirm availability and your driver's details within a few hours.
